Help us by doing your bit for the environment
We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our event. You can join in and help us by:
joining the Light Out Leeds scheme
This is your opportunity to help us to reduce the carbon used during the festival. Turn off you lights and non-essential electric items during the event. You can use the hashtag #lightsoutleeds when using social media.
downloading the app to help us save paper
In 2019, we produced our first Light Night Leeds app for just £2 to reduce the amount of physical copies of the festival guide produced. All paper copies leftover were recycled.
leaving your car at home and use public transport, cycle or car-share
When you are making your plans for the festival, please look at
public transport external link, or consider cycling in or car sharing with family, friends.
bringing and using your reusable water bottle
We support Refill, the campaign designed to help you reduce your plastic pollution, by making it easy to refill your reusable water bottle instead of buying a plastic one. To find your nearest station visit the
Refill website external link or download their app.
recycling on the go
There are over 50 recycling bins in the city centre. Empty coffee cups can be recycled in any Caffè Nero, Costa, McDonald's, Pret and Starbucks or in one of ten new
bright orange bins external link.
We have asked all our street food vendors to remove single use plastic items, serve food in compostable food containers and provide recyclable cutlery. Traders have been asked to source their food locally and that food is disposed of responsibly.
measuring your carbon footprint
Test your footprint and find out ways in which you can reduce your impact with simple and easy to use
WWF Footprint Calculator external link, which gives you instant results and recommendations.
