31. Guardian Angels - Maro Avrabou and Demetri Xenakis (France/Greece)

14 and 15 October 2021 - 6:30pm to 10:30pm

Guardian Angels by Maro Avrabou and Demetri Xenakis

Artists Maro Avrabou and Dimitri Xenakis are interested in examining urban and rural landscapes and our impact on our surroundings. Unexpected and surprising, Guardian Angels, is a collection of plastic watering cans suspended in mid-air. This sculptural piece comes to life at night pouring out ‘water’ made of fibre optic wire into the River Aire below. Whilst very colourful and playful, this work also highlights the importance of nature preservation and asks us to consider our role in our environment.

Please keep an eye on this website and our social media for further announcements.

Yorkshire based neon artist, Richard Wheater, has taken the idea of the rainbow, nature’s most stunning display of natural light, and designed a bespoke new work for the city of Leeds. The design is based on a full rainbow circle in light, which is how a rainbow looks in its true form from the air or from space. The technical term NASA use for this is 'GLORY'. Richard worked with a group of young people from Leeds to create this stunning large-scale artwork. Visible from the water and the riverside walk, GLORY will brighten up the Leeds Waterfront for the next 2 years.

Presented in partnership with Yorkshire Building Society and funded by Leeds Waterfront Enhancement Fund.

Change is an immersive sound and light installation on the theme of weather in both urban and natural landscapes.
