13. On Earth (as it is in Heaven) - Luka Savić (Slovenia)

14 and 15 October 2021 - 6:30pm to 10:30pm

On Earth as it is in Heaven by Luka Savic

Artist Luka Savic often reinterprets and comments upon works of other artists, finding inspiration in the artworks of the past. In this artwork he chose to reference Marko Pogačnik, a Slovenian neo-avantgardist who explored esoteric and cosmologic principles in art. On Earth as it is in Heaven crosses the border between the visible and the invisible, the material and the spiritual, and the handshake can be understood as a harmonic and meaningful gesture that brings together the Earth and the Sky.

14. Fiat Lux – Let There Be Light!

15 October 2021 - 7pm to 10:15pm (10 to 15 minutes of readings and music on the hour and half hour)

Fiat Lux - Let There Be Light - Leeds Cathedral

The magnificent arts and crafts interior of Leeds Cathedral (opened 1904) provides the perfect atmospheric setting for an evening when, inspired by the works of Saint Francis of Assisi (1182 to 1226) and Pope Francis, through words and music, and also through silence, we are encouraged to use our senses and our imagination to explore something of the spiritual dimension of the beauty of creation.

16. Wave - Opera North Projects (UK)

14 and 15 October 2021 - 6:30pm to 10:30pm

Wave Work by Opera North Projects

Returning to Light Night following the completion of Opera North’s major redevelopment, the Howard Assembly Room becomes home to an immersive environment by artist Akeelah Bertram with live music from an ensemble led by cellist Clare O’Connell. Engaging with themes of nature and the environment ahead of the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference, Bertram’s installation reacts to the musicians in real time, with pools of water refracting sound-responsive visual displays around the beautifully restored gothic revival venue. Always a favourite on the Light Night trail, Opera North Projects promise another transportive and mesmerising meeting of light and music.

Commissioned by Opera North.
