The Leeds Library is one of Leeds’ best kept secrets, and this year celebrates its 250th anniversary.
This grade 2 listed building will play host to a specially commissioned new projection celebrating 100 years of women’s suffrage. A Certain Amount of Courage is a vibrant and captivating projection about the Leeds activists Mary Gawthorpe and Leonora Cohen. Through the lens of the lives, decisions and acts of these two committed and courageous women, the piece conveys a true sense of the height of the 20th century battle for ‘Votes For Women’.
This immersive work, including specially commissioned portraits of the women by Suman Kaur, will take the sounds and visuals of women’s suffrage back to the street once again, to inspire people to see how ordinary people can do extraordinary things.
With thanks to the Leeds Library and Accessorize.
