2017's World Triathlon Leeds will see both the amateurs and elite – including many of Team GB's Rio Olympians – head back to Leeds for what is set to be an unforgettable event on the triathlon calendar.
With lots more happening over the weekend, including the GO TRI event for first-timers and other activities at Roundhay Park, plus the chance to experience an incredible atmosphere while cheering on the athletes, there are many ways to enjoy a whole weekend of activity in Leeds.
Roundhay Park will be a hive of activity throughout the weekend. During the Saturday, over 500 triathletes will race through the park for the TriStar, Youth and Junior events. Plus, triathlon beginners in their hundreds will embark on their own personal challenges with the GO TRI event. Designed to give people the chance to experience the atmosphere of the weekend whilst offering a taster of the sport, participants will together tackle a 400m swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run; cheered all the way to the finish line.
A new addition to the calendar, Saturday will also see up and coming paratriathletes compete over a 400m swim, 10km bike and 2.2km run, competing alongside experienced racers and enjoying the moment of crossing the Roundhay Park finish line.
On Sunday there will be a steady stream of live action with the Sprint, Standard and Elite races starting from Waterloo Lake, two big screens and activities in the form of a sponsor expo and stalls from local sports and activities clubs, so there’s bound to be something to keep the whole family entertained.
There will also be free spectator viewing areas in the city centre on Briggate and Victoria Gardens, both of which will see the elite women and men pass several times as they follow the city centre loop round. With street entertainment earlier in the day and big screens showing all the race action being broadcast live, these city centre vantage points are sure to be very popular for those keen to cheer on the athletes and follow all the drama and excitement of the races.
2017 Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds will be organised exclusively by British Triathlon, in partnership with Leeds City Council, UK Sport and the ITU.
